Some settings in Signority can be locked by an administrator at the Global or Team level.
How Locking Works
Signority settings flow from the top down:
Global Settings → Team Settings → Profile Settings → Document Settings
When a setting is unlocked, each level below can override it. When a setting is locked, the value set at that level is enforced for everyone below it.
By default most Global/Team Settings are unlocked. This means the value set at the Global or Team level acts as a default, but can be changed by:
-
Individual users in their Profile Settings or Document Settings
-
Team Administrators, who can override or lock the setting for their team in Team Settings.
When a setting is locked, it becomes mandatory for all users and cannot be changed at any lower level. This is useful for enforcing organization-wide policies — for example, requiring all users to use two-factor authentication.
Here is a table to break down how the settings behave when locked at different levels:
|
If a setting is... |
Then... |
|---|---|
|
Unlocked at the global level |
Can be overridden in team settings or by users if not locked in teams |
|
Locked at the global level |
The global value is enforced for all teams and users and cannot be changed |
|
Unlocked at the team level |
Team members can override it. |
|
Locked at the team level |
All team members must use the team value |
How do I know when a Setting is Locked
When a setting is locked, the words the lock will turn red and the words "Locked by…" will appear next to the lock icon. This message is visible to all users wherever that setting appears in Team or Profile settings, so they know which administrator locked it and who to contact if they need it changed.
